Blossoms

Playing with another new stencil from Celebra8 - the Grunge background which makes a great frame.

This is my entry for the Fusion Challenge - The Sketch only.

Romantic Rose

This is my first card since returning from my trip. Good to get back into my studio and play with ink, stamps ... and a new stencil. The stencil is from a South African company called Celebr8 - a lovely new find!

I was inspired by the The Card Concept challenge : Romantic Roses, but I only wanted a single one.

Back home

I have just flown home from a 4 week trip to South Africa. A big part of the trip was being with my mother, who is now 81, and helping her with her health, home and finances. It is difficult living so far away from ageing parents. She still loves her small garden, and has lots of birds popping in for her seeds.

This is the Mandiba Strelitzia (named after Nelson Mandela). The common name is Bird of Paradise.

While I was out in the garden, this lovely, and quite large, butterfly kept me company.

One of the things I sorted through was my mother's wool stash ... found some lovely Mexican Wave and finished a blanket/throw. Made it in Tunisian Entrelac stitch. The Lavender & turquoise one has been brought home to finish.

I did have a short trip to Cape Town ... oh how glorious it is. I was lucky to have blue skies and left before the BIG winter storm hit.

Sorry I have been MIA, but I'll be posting my cards again soon ... need to unpack and get settled.

CASology #254 : House

It's so exciting when you see your children (and friend's children) grow up and make their way in the world. Buying your first house is one of life's momentous occasions, and I made this card for my friend's daughter & SIL who have just moved in to their new home.

I doodled the sun rays and coloured with Prismacolor.

This was perfect timing for the CASology Challenge : House.

Come and join in the challenge, but first pop on over and see the cards created by the CASology Design team.

CASology #253 : Clothes

I was so tempted to make a tiny tag with a babygro for this week's CASology challenge : Clothes as I have two friends about to become grandmothers for the first time. But I do have the sweetest dress from our sponsor, Stamplorations, and who can resist a party!

I used a small piece of black string to create a place to hang the dress. I doodled the stars and dots, added some Wink of Stella and mounted with coloured foam. Trying to catch the delicate shimmer of Wink of Stella is not easy.

Our design team members have come up with some wonderful cards ... come and see their inspiration.

CASology #252 : Insect

The CASology cue word this week is Insect and you can't go wrong with butterflies! I love this bold butterfly as one of the trio from Penny Black.

Our design team members have been playing with creepy crawlies ... and flutterbies too.

CASology #251 : Medicine

I hope that no one is sick ... but if you are, here's a warm bowl of chicken soup. It might not cure you, but it warms your heart and it's good for the soul.

This week's cue word for the CASology Challenge is Medicine.

If you need a little medicinal help, pop on over to our design team members and see their inspiration.

CASology #250 : Loud

This week's challenge is LOUD! I decided to keep this to just one colour for colouring ... and red is really loud. I think this card will be winging it's way to my brother.

Come on over and join in the CASology #250 : Loud challenge. We'd love to see your card.

Having a ball with bookmarks & watercoloring

When I spotted Susan's card (absolutely worth the visit) made for the Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers which was to be inspired by the Etsy shop Create the Cut, I knew I had to investigate it. Wow! What wonderful watercolour designs and pure inspiration for colour combinations. [Thank you Audrie for such a wonderful find!]

Because of my love of blues, my first inspiration had to be THIS.

I used the Altenew Watercolor Wonders Set, with Distress Inks ...
... Blooms : Blueprint sketch, Salty Ocean, Faded Jeans
... Leaves : Faded Jeans, Mermaid Lagoon, Chipped Sapphire.

Had such a ball playing with the inks & spritzing, I had to try another colour combination. This time I chose THIS ONE which out of my normal comfort zone of bright colours.

The Distress inks were ...
... Blooms : Antique Linen, Tattered Rose, Victorian Velvet
... Leaves : Antique Linen, Crushed Olive, Mowed Lawn, Peeled Paint.

It's almost impossible to go wrong with the watercolour effect. So I thought it would be a wonderful activity for our 20th Anniversary Weekend for our Book Club. I'll take some cards, but I think we could all do with a bookmark as a memento of the weekend. So I typed up the Mark Twain quote, and cut into bookmarks. I'll be taking some May Arts Silk ribbon which is brilliant for dyeing with your Distress Inks so that it matches the colours of your card/bookmark. I can't wait to see the different colour combinations that come up.

Oh happy day indeed!

I will also enter this to the CAS Watercolour Challenge : Flowers

Warm wishes

I'm very much more a blue/green person, but I have friends who love the warm colours of orange/red/yellow. So I'm going out of my comfort zone with this week's CASology challenge #249 : Warm.
