Sunbeam

It's time for a new CASology challenge. This week's cue word is Sunbeam. I decided to use only one sun ray from the Papertrey Ink Hello Sunshine set.

Nothing is better than warming in the sunbeams streaming in a window in winter (yes, it's winter down here in the Southern Hemisphere).

The quote is attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi. I typed it up in Silhouette.

[Apologies for the yellow text, but blogger does not want to change it, even if I retype it!]

Now it's time to pop over to the Design Team and warm yourselves in their sunbeams!

There was such a lovely sunset as I was driving back from the coast yesterday.

Watercolour Background 2

Still playing with watercolours ... a more masculine card using Daler Rowney watercolours.

I only noticed the smudge after I took the photo. Must have been when it was trimming the paper. I thought of hiding it with a butterfly ... but then it wouldn't be a masculine card anymore. What else could I put there to hide the smudge?

Watercolour background 1

Having done the OCC Simply Watercolour course, I've had my watercolours and distress inks out.

This card is using Distress Inks.

My entry for ...

Rainbow Butterflies

Combining two of my favourite things ... butterflies and rainbows! And watercoloring!

I added glossy accents ...

A while back I had to flatten a card and so weighted it down. And it flattened the glossy accents too ... and gives them a more velvety look. Nice to know there are 2 ways to use them.

M for Mom

It's not so easy doing the watercolour alpha painting.  I started with the large Monogram and chose M for my mother.

I used wordmark.it to pick a letter M from the fonts on my computer. Absolutely love this website. Saves me so much time when trying to choose fonts. You type in the the letter, word or phrase that you want, and it shows that in all the fonts on your computer. Simply marvellous.

This is my second attempt.

I added the blue-grey shadow line, and then added a gold one using Delicate Gold refill as paint. Sentiment is from Penny Black.

This is my first attempt ... used too much water. Not sure if I laid down too much to start, or whether my paint was too watery. So the paints ran into each other and got some brown spots. Also not so keen on the "blooms" either. All a learning curve.

SaveSave

It's your Day

I couldn't resist the Pinkfresh Studio Floral Squares dies. This is my first card with one of them. Super CAS!

The die was inset back into the top layer; the background was painted with Distress Inks on watercolour paper; flower area was painted with Wink of Stella.

Watercolour Landscape

My landscape scene for the OCC Simply Watercolour course.

Since I'm on a tropical island, I thought I'd go with a sea scene. One of our beaches is called "Roches Noires" (Black Rocks). I'm trying to convince my mother to come for a visit in September or October, so the sentiment is to encourage her to make plans.

Here are some photos of the beach ...

Watercolour Grids #3

Continuing with the grids of Day 1 of the OCC Simply Watercolour course.

I think I may have laid the colour down a bit think and uniform on these first 2 cards (here and here). So I decided I would do the water first, then drop paint in technique to get more of a gradient of colour.

For this one, I decided to go with Distress Inks as I love the bright colours, and since I was tired of squares, I went for diamonds.

Watercolour Grids #2

Continuing with the grids of Day 1 of the OCC Simply Watercolour course.

Second card I tried with the Guitar Watercolour (must have been one of my kid's school sets). Here I did a pixelated rainbow arc of squares.

Watercolour Grids #1

Love the idea of the grids from Day 1 of OCC Simply Watercolour Course.

Started with the Hero Arts watercolour wheel set which I've had for years. I mixed up the blocks of colours in a sort of rainbow gradation.

Watercolour Tartan

My first plaid card for the Simply Watercolour OCC is inspired by the colours of our family tartan. I wondered whether it would work with such strong colours of red and black.

I have three brothers ... I wonder which of them will be getting this card? Or perhaps I should just make another 2!

Here is our tartan ...

Monochrome Flowers

Some very soft blues and silver for a Sympathy card. The dies are coloured with Distress Ink Chipped Sapphire - I love the different colours that come out of Distress Inks. Who would have thought this soft blue would come out of the deep blue of Chipped Sapphire?!

A little Something ...

A new CASology challenge starts today ... remember that we are having a two week challenge this time. We know life gets busy in summer.

The cue word is Cloud.

This just might be the whitest card I have ever made! But that pop of colour does make it cheerful.

Pop on over to the design team to get more inspiration.

Watercolour Background

I love using Distress Oxides as watercolours. The light that shines through makes me happy.

Splash Watercoloring

I spotted this Splash Watercoloring challenge over at CAS Watercolour

I had a couple of small pieces of the Altenew Washi tape left from my last card, and it needs a little background to help fill the card. Add a dash of script and the lovely light dies from Alexandre Renke, and top it off with a sentiment from Altenew.

Switching sides for the second card ... and the darker flowers get darker liquid pearls.

I will also enter this to Altenew July Inspiration Challenge.
