Relax Your Way

The situation here in Mauritius has changed dramatically since my Birthday just over a month ago. We have been back in serious lockdown since 10 March! No one can go to work except for medical staff and essential workers. Only supermarkets are open, and you can only shop twice a week according to alphabetical surname. One mistake in our quarantine procedures for those arriving in Mauritius means we lost our ZERO covid cases status in local population as we've had for the last 10 months. We went into lockdown when there were 8 local cases and now we're at 212 new cases. Yesterday we had 230, so for the first time the numbers are going down.

Our area has been declared a red zone, so in addition to all the lockdown rules, no one is allowed in or out of the area. We can't get deliveries in from places outside the zone.

So my son spends another Birthday in lockdown. Last year he had to cancel the party he had organised - this year he already knew he wouldn't be celebrating with his friends.

We tried to give him some fun ... I taped some paper across in front of his door ... and filled the space with balloons.

When he opened his door, he was showered with balloons.

Since it's not an easy situation for anyone at the moment, I thought I would give a card encouraging him to be relaxed. We can only take things a day at a time.

My entry to ...

  1. A lovely card, and a sweet surprise for your son's birthday, Jo x

  2. Oh Janet your card is fabulous and just perfect! LOVE your balloon surprise idea ... what fun and I'm sure it helped to brighten his pandemic birthday! Good Job! Thanks so much for joining in the fun at our Make The Card Challenge! Good Luck and we hope you’ll come back often.

Please stop in for a visit!

  3. The world is having to get creative and your balloon birthday surprise is really clever!!!! Know he was surprised and enjoyed the FUN!!!! Your card is perfect for the occasion!
    Paper Hugs,

  4. Your son must have been in shock when he saw all of those fabulous balloons...such a great idea, Janet! I love the masculine image you chose for this works perfectly with your DSP and jute twine! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Addicted to CAS!

  5. I only wish that we'd enter some strict lockdown here... it's difficult, but our numbers are constantly on the rise. I hope your son enjoyed his quarantine birthay! Thanks for playing along with us at CASology!

  6. What a fantastic idea for your son's birthday Janet, and a really super cool male card.. Do hope things are improving with your Covid restrictions.. it only takes one and in the last few days "one" person has visited many places and a football match, so Brisbane is again on restrictions. Thinking of you Robyn

  7. Your card is beautiful! I'm so sorry to hear that your son has had 2 birthdays affected by Covid. This has really derailed the milestones and celebrations that we have always taken for granted. I love your balloon idea! I hope he enjoyed it! Thank you for joining the Make The Cards Challenge this week! I am thinking of you from my little island in Florida.

Thank your for popping by! I'd love to hear your comments
