Having a ball with bookmarks & watercoloring

When I spotted Susan's card (absolutely worth the visit) made for the Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers which was to be inspired by the Etsy shop Create the Cut, I knew I had to investigate it. Wow! What wonderful watercolour designs and pure inspiration for colour combinations. [Thank you Audrie for such a wonderful find!]

Because of my love of blues, my first inspiration had to be THIS.

I used the Altenew Watercolor Wonders Set, with Distress Inks ...
... Blooms : Blueprint sketch, Salty Ocean, Faded Jeans
... Leaves : Faded Jeans, Mermaid Lagoon, Chipped Sapphire.

Had such a ball playing with the inks & spritzing, I had to try another colour combination. This time I chose THIS ONE which out of my normal comfort zone of bright colours.

The Distress inks were ...
... Blooms : Antique Linen, Tattered Rose, Victorian Velvet
... Leaves : Antique Linen, Crushed Olive, Mowed Lawn, Peeled Paint.

It's almost impossible to go wrong with the watercolour effect. So I thought it would be a wonderful activity for our 20th Anniversary Weekend for our Book Club. I'll take some cards, but I think we could all do with a bookmark as a memento of the weekend. So I typed up the Mark Twain quote, and cut into bookmarks. I'll be taking some May Arts Silk ribbon which is brilliant for dyeing with your Distress Inks so that it matches the colours of your card/bookmark. I can't wait to see the different colour combinations that come up.

Oh happy day indeed!

I will also enter this to the CAS Watercolour Challenge : Flowers

  1. These are lovely, Janet! (I think you just sold me that stamp set, too!) Love the blues - make me think of Delftware! Off to check out some of your links.....

  2. Janet, these are absolutely stunning. Wow! Love them both!

  3. Stunning the colours.

  4. Wow, wow, wow! I would never have chosen those colours (2nd card), but they look absolutely stunning. Good for you! Love the blues, too!

  5. I love your watercolor cards and bookmarks. Soft, lovely colors and a wonderful idea to make the bookmarks like the cards. Thank you for choosing my card at CASology and I'm so happy to find your blog.

  6. WOW! Both of these cards are gorgeous, Janet! And I love the bookmarks with that wonderful quote that you've done up so pretty! Would you mind sending me the quote? If you saved it. As a retired librarian, I'm all about bookmarks! Thanks so much for sharing with us at CAS Watercolour!

  7. These are all amazing, Janet! You have mastered this technique. Love how different the cards look even though they are the same stamps. Couldn't pick one over the other ... they are both so beautiful. And the book marks are AWESOME for your club. Perfect verse too. Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Watercolour!

  8. Stunning watercolour flower design, Janet for both your cards and matching bookmarks :-) I do not have a favorite either set either. In our family, you can never have too many bookmarks. TFS and joining us at CAS Watercolour. Hugs...
