CASology #251 : Medicine

I hope that no one is sick ... but if you are, here's a warm bowl of chicken soup. It might not cure you, but it warms your heart and it's good for the soul.

This week's cue word for the CASology Challenge is Medicine.

CASology #250 : Loud

This week's challenge is LOUD! I decided to keep this to just one colour for colouring ... and red is really loud. I think this card will be winging it's way to my brother.

Come on over and join in the CASology #250 : Loud challenge. We'd love to see your card.

Our design team members have come up with some wonderful cards ... come and see their inspiration.

Having a ball with bookmarks & watercoloring

When I spotted Susan's card (absolutely worth the visit) made for the Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers which was to be inspired by the Etsy shop Create the Cut, I knew I had to investigate it. Wow! What wonderful watercolour designs and pure inspiration for colour combinations. [Thank you Audrie for such a wonderful find!]

Because of my love of blues, my first inspiration had to be THIS.

I used the Altenew Watercolor Wonders Set, with Distress Inks ...
... Blooms : Blueprint sketch, Salty Ocean, Faded Jeans
... Leaves : Faded Jeans, Mermaid Lagoon, Chipped Sapphire.

Had such a ball playing with the inks & spritzing, I had to try another colour combination. This time I chose THIS ONE which out of my normal comfort zone of bright colours.

The Distress inks were ...
... Blooms : Antique Linen, Tattered Rose, Victorian Velvet
... Leaves : Antique Linen, Crushed Olive, Mowed Lawn, Peeled Paint.

It's almost impossible to go wrong with the watercolour effect. So I thought it would be a wonderful activity for our 20th Anniversary Weekend for our Book Club. I'll take some cards, but I think we could all do with a bookmark as a memento of the weekend. So I typed up the Mark Twain quote, and cut into bookmarks. I'll be taking some May Arts Silk ribbon which is brilliant for dyeing with your Distress Inks so that it matches the colours of your card/bookmark. I can't wait to see the different colour combinations that come up.

Oh happy day indeed!

I will also enter this to the CAS Watercolour Challenge : Flowers

Warm wishes

I'm very much more a blue/green person, but I have friends who love the warm colours of orange/red/yellow. So I'm going out of my comfort zone with this week's CASology challenge #249 : Warm.

Milky Way

After creating my dark cards, I had Distress Oxides left on my craft sheet. Can't let that go to waste, so dabbed it on a navy card. This made me think of the milky way. So add a few embossed and die cut stars, a sentiment and voila!

Not sure if it's allowed, but this will be my 2nd entry to the Just Us Girls Challenge Trend Week : Make a Background with Distress inks.

Distress Background

I was playing around with the Distress Oxides but not getting results I wanted. Then I spotted THIS on pinterest. Romana was kind enough to explain her process ...
... she started with standard Distress Inks, then added the Distress Oxides,
... and it is very important to let the layers dry in-between.

I'm so much happier with the results now. I also added splatters of Gold Delicata - I use the refill ink.

I used some shimmer cardstock for the die.

Pretty in Pink

Sometimes it's good to make more than one card of the same design. Change up the sentiments and you have a set to give away as a gift.

Dark Cards

When I saw Debbie's card, I knew I wanted to try something similar. She used Finetec Iridescent Watercolours, but I have so many supplies that I am NOT buying more stuff right now. So my first idea was to mix some Perfect Pearls into some Distress Oxide inks and paint with that. The pearl look did not come through as with regular Distress Inks, so I waited until it was dry. Then I painted on dry Perfect Pearls and then gave a spritz of water. That gave a lovely shimmer.

I stamped the same panel of flowers as they were already set up in the MISTI, but I embossed in silver this time. I coloured this one with Prismacolor crayons.

Blues ... are my thing

I loved Hannelie's card at Time Out Challenge. My CASE on her card focuses on ...
... a die cut
... splatters
... graded shading
... mostly white flowers
My own twist is to use blues as those are my favourite. I also coloured the flower centres to add a little weight to the flowers.

GO confidently ...

It's Tuesday, so it's CASology challenge time! This week's cue word is Commencement. Whether it's an actual graduation ceremony with the celebration of achievement and beginning of the next step, or a new beginning or a new venture, we all need encouragement to go after our dreams.

This was my original plan ... the third bird starting the journey. I like the idea of 3 birds, and sort of triangular flow, but not sure if it makes it too busy. Also, with the arrow, there are 3 blue items, so the extra bird makes 4. Decisions, decisions! Which one do you think is better?

Join us in the CASology Challenge #248 : Commencement and encourage someone in your circle to go after their dreams.

Mother's Day

It is quite hard to keep track of Mother's Day if you're living in different countries ... you can check out the link HERE. I really hadn't realised that it was so diverse.
My mother lives in South Africa and Mother's Day is celebrated the second Sunday in May (same as the USA), but I live in Mauritius, and our Mother's Day is the last Sunday of May! I had better get this in the post first thing tomorrow morning.

How I love the Platinum Embossing powder. Here's a close-up of it.

I was inspired by the colours of the Altenew May Challenge.

Follow your Dreams

I am such a dreamer ... and I picture so many things in my mind. Those thoughts just flow along ... wish I could get them all done!

This is my card for CASology #247: Flow Challenge. I wanted to use an Altenew stamp set as they are the sponsors for this week's challenge.
